Background Check Frustrations.
Good evening everyone. Today is March the 23rd. I am here this evening to maybe enlighten you how difficult it is to get a background check clearance. Especially after you have worked your ass off.to get where you are in your sobriety. I am not saying that I expect them to just hand me over a clearance. I believe in giving someone a second chance. It’s like telling a cancer patient who happens to be a Nurse, Doctor. or an X-ray tech. that they can no longer work in health care due to there ongoing health issues. How ridiculous does that sound. Even with the staggering number of Over Doses that happen everyday across this country! I kind of think that this is an issue we need to take a good hard look and decide Because a man made some bad choices and has paid his dues to society. And willing to give back. Knowing damn well that he’s not doing it to get rich or for the health benefits. When it is in the non-profit category it means exactly that. No Profit. Another obstacle for the addict that is still out there.Looking into why my background check failed. It soon became clear that there was more than a few indiscretions on my record. Now begins the overwhelmingly uphill battle to prove that some of these convictions are not mine.Especially when the first thing out of the background check investigators mouth! These are your fingerprints correct. Ex. A few weeks back I was feeling pretty cruddy. I finally made the decision to go to the E.R. So after about two hours of the hurry up and wait game. I was finally seen by a nurse practitioner. She proceeded to examine me. She asked me to remove my gown. And as everyone knows I am an addict recovering. But when this women saw my tracs they were old. That didn’t make a difference to this person. She saw a junkie, not a man, not an addict. A fucking junkie!! There’s a difference. Now I asked that lady what was wrong why did her demeanor change. Did I suddenly contract some type of viral disease. She immediately went on the defensive. That I was mistaken. That she was not prejudiced! Yet before this nurse left the examining room she used the word prejudiced three times. You know I might of went a little bit of off topic just now. PERCEPTION IS A MOTHA. We are all guilty of it! You know in this day and age one would think the word prejudice, racism, addiction, alcoholism would not exist. Yet here they are. Thank You Schilo61
